ISO 9001: How can it benefit my company?
Gaining ISO 9001:2000 certification shows your customers that
you can meet their requirements CONSISTENTLY! It also provides companies
with a system to monitor and maintain customer satisfaction through 'continuous
improvement'.
What about ISO 14001?
ISO 14001:2004 provides industry with a useful model for managing and
improving environmental impacts resulting from business operations.
And OHSAS 18001?
OHSAS 18001 provides industry with a useful model for managing health
& safety risks resulting from business operations, and for improving
OH&S performance.
Why is an IRCA-registered course so important?
Choosing an IRCA-registered course provides trainees with the assurance
that the standard of training they will receive is internationally recognised
and approved.
What is an 'Internal Auditor'?
An 'Internal Auditor' is a competent individual who monitors their organisation's
Management System on a regular basis.
So what is a 'Lead Auditor', then?
A 'Lead Auditor' (or 'Principal Auditor') is a competent individual who
monitors other organisations' Management Systems on behalf of their own,
or on a 'Third Party' basis, for a UKAS-approved Certification Body.
What is SQMC?

of cost-effective management systems training and consultancy. SQMC comprises
a highly qualified staff with the necessary expertise and background to
advise on the introduction and implementation of Quality, Environmental
and Occupational Health & Safety Management systems and techniques
across a broad range of industries. Our first-time pass rate since 1998
averages 97% for QMS Lead Auditor courses - 20%
HIGHER than all other IRCA training organisations (average figures
from 2001). Our 'Internal Quality Auditor' training course has a pass
rate of 99.9% - devised from average results over recent
years.
Do SQMC conduct audits for their clients?
Yes!
Who audits SQMC?
SQMC is an IRCA-approved Training Organisation and our standard of training
is monitored by scheduled visits by an IRCA Reviewing Officer.
Audits take time, and I'm very busy. What other ways can SQMC help me?
SQMC can supply a vastly experienced IRCA-registered Auditor to do Internal or External auditing for you - either as a "one-off", to cover for absent staff, or on a regular schedule to suit your needs.
What other Auditor training do you offer?
We provide training for Food Safety Management Systems, TS 16949 (ideally suited to the automotive industry), Food Safety Management Systems, Information Security Management Systems, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Problem Solving workshops, Quality Improvement Teams, Process Mapping, the European Excellence Model (EFQM), the Baldrige National Quality Program (MBQA).
We've also pioneered 'hybrid courses', which combine Quality with Environmental or Health & Safety; and Environmental combined with Health & Safety. These are available as 2-day Internal Auditor programmes on your own premises, and are a time and cost-effective solution for organisations that need multi-skilled Auditors FAST.

ISO reports a new ISO/IEC standard to help organisations
manage quality of IT system and software engineering life cycle processes.
Organisations wishing to apply the quality management requirements of
ISO 9001:2000 to the acquisition, supply, development, operation and maintenance
of IT systems and related support services now have a valuable tool in
ISO/IEC TR 90005:2008, Systems engineering – Guidelines
for the application of ISO 9001 to system life cycle processes.
ISO/IEC TR 90005 identifies the issues that should be addressed independent
of technology, life cycle models, development processes, sequence of activities
or organisational structure.
ISO/IEC TR 90005:2008 is appropriate to systems that are
* part of a commercial contract with another organisation
* a product available for a market sector
* used to support the processes of an organisation
* embedded in a hardware product, or
* related to software services.

Attention, Car Body Shops! What is PAS 125?
The PAS 125 standard has been developed jointly by Thatcham and BSi to
improve the quality of vehicle repairs and sets minimum standards for
competent personnel, equipment, repair methods, quality of materials and
internal checks and controls. There are three levels of PAS 125 accreditation
from minor cosmetic damage to major structural repairs involving complex
materials and techniques.
Bodyshops that meet the standards specified in PAS 125 can apply for a
licence to use the Thatcham BSi Kitemark, an internationally recognised
symbol of quality. This will help you safeguard the business you
get from work providers, and will also have many other
business benefits.
The exacting nature of PAS 125 defines the requirements for automotive
vehicle body repair facilities including:
• Repair Process
• Process Management including Quality Control

ISO 9001:2008!
(ISO: Geneva) -- The new edition of ISO 9001 is being submitted for voting
as a final draft international standard. Subject to formal approval by
the ISO membership, the publication of the revised version is expected
to be published this autumn.
The draft international standard was approved at the May 19–23,
2008, meeting of ISO technical committee ISO/TC 176—“Quality
management and quality assurance,” held in Novi Sad, Serbia, and
hosted by ISS, the Serbian national standards body. ISO 9001 will be circulated
this month as a final draft, on which ISO’s national member bodies
as a whole may vote. Watch this space for details of our ‘Transition’
Workshops!

In recent months we have been discussing Quality ‘gurus’
– especially Dr Juran.
He and others such as W. Edwards Deming and Philip Crosby have made such
an impact in the last quarter of the 20th century that their work is embodied
in Quality Management training, destined to be discussed, argued over,
and appreciated by Quality practitioners the world over.
Recently Crosby (pictured here: courtesy of Winter Park Library, Florida:
The Philip Crosby Foundation Grant), who died in 2001, has attracted another
wave of interest.
SQMC has, as a result, conducted a review of Crosby’s “Absolutes
of Quality Management” and his “14 Steps” – very
popular in the 80s and 90s – and given his ideas a 21st century
‘makeover’, resulting in what we call the “CROSBY-Plus”
programme. Our 4-day CROSBY-Plus “Champions” course for management
is now available on an in-house basis for a variety of industries and
organisations. Contact us for details!
