About Your Course

SQMC is pleased to provide your organisation with this tailored Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety Management Systems training course. We look forward to working with you soon and helping you to develop a clearer understanding of how effective management systems support everyday operational performance.

'QHSE Management Systems for Operational Managers' is a practical two-day programme exploring how ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 relate to the everyday responsibilities of managers within a manufacturing environment.

Rather than examining the Standards clause by clause, the course focuses on how effective quality, environmental and health-and-safety management systems support the business through strong leadership, clear process ownership, sensible risk management and consistent operational control. These systems may be managed separately or brought together as part of an integrated management system.

During the course, you will explore what good practice looks like in a manufacturing environment and consider how your own department can demonstrate effective control. The programme will also explain how external auditors assess processes, evidence, leadership involvement and workplace behaviours.

Through practical workshops and discussions, you will have the opportunity to identify ways to strengthen your own processes, improve consistency and contribute more effectively to your organisation’s performance.

What to Expect

This is an interactive and business-focused course. You will be encouraged to draw on your own experience and consider how the topics apply within your department.

No previous detailed knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 or ISO 45001 is required. The aim is not to turn managers into auditors. Instead, the course is designed to give you the confidence and practical understanding needed to manage your area effectively, support continual improvement and approach external audits without unnecessary panic.

Going Digital: No Printed Notes

We have moved our learning materials online. SQMC is now a 95% paperless organisation as part of our commitment to reducing waste and supporting environmental sustainability.

Why This Is Better for You

  • You will receive digital course materials through your secure SQMC learner portal.
  • You will not need to carry a heavy folder of printed notes.
  • Your materials are searchable, zoomable and easy to revisit whenever you need them.
  • You can access them on a laptop, tablet or mobile phone.
  • Digital materials reduce unnecessary printing and avoid outdated notes floating around the office.

What to Bring

To access your digital materials and take part in the practical activities during the course, please bring either:

  • a laptop — preferred; or
  • a tablet — perfectly fine if you don't have a laptop (but harder to type on!).

If you do not have access to either device, please let us know ASAP and we will provide a tablet for you to use during the training.

Other Requirements

Did you know that it takes an average of 23 minutes to refocus after an interruption or distraction? This is the finding of a University of California, Irvine study and supports what we have always found at SQMC as professional trainers. For this reason, we politely request that all participants’ mobile devices are switched off while in the training suite.

Attendance at all sessions is required in order to receive your full course certificate. There is no final formal examination. Instead, the course includes practical workshops, group discussions and activities designed to help you apply the ideas to your own department.

After successfully completing the course, you will receive a digital Certificate of Completion from the Scottish Quality Management Centre. This will normally be sent electronically within 14 days of completing the programme. It can be saved for your records, printed if required or added to your LinkedIn profile.

Lastly...

Before attending the course, please read this short article we've produced: Quality Management Systems in Focus. 'Quality Management Systems', in reality, could be (and almost was) renamed 'Business Management Systems', such is the extent they effect overall operational management. They provide a tremendous and logical platform for accessory systems, such as Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety, to build from. Therefore, appreciating the content of this article will stand you in good stead ahead of learning more about all three systems, on your course.

We look forward to meeting you and working with you during the course!
