Our Business Auditor training courses are conducted by a team selected from the SQMC tutors below (or other CQI/IRCA registered tutors as required).

All tutors are practicing quality professionals and assessor-certificated. Together they cover a wide range of experience in manufacturing, process and service industries (including local government and the Health Services).

Dr. C Ferguson : MSc, MCQI, IRCA reg'd Internal Auditor

Charles is a tutor with GlenCo (Glenrothes College), previously trained by SQMC as an IRCA-approved Tutor on SQMC QMS courses. He is seconded to SQMC to run joint venture courses at Glenco.

With a 35+ years background in a variety of manufacturing companies behind him, he has been teaching industrial management subjects since 1999. He is an IRCA-listed SQMC Tutor, teaching on Internal QMS Auditor courses.

I W Hannah : SrMASQ, FCQI

SQMC Director of Programmes, Ian has been involved in 'Quality' innovation since 1967 (in Canada, USA, and Scotland) as a Quality Manager, Quality Consultant, and University and College tutor. Graduating 'P.Eng' in Canada, he has been a long-standing member of the CQI Education Panel since returning to the UK, and was formerly Director of a Masters degree in Quality Management. He has lectured in such diverse countries as Canada, Venezuela, and Russia, as well as throughout Europe. In the mid-'90s he was involved in the development of EFQM's "Excellence" Model.

Using his technical teacher training ('Distinction' at Jordanhill, Glasgow) he is the programmes 'guru' at SQMC, designing and developing new courses, as well as updating existing programmes.

J Hughes : MRICS, IRCA reg'd QMS Lead Auditor

Jim's work experience, as a Chartered surveyor, has primarily been in the construction industry. In the past 10 years or so, however, his Quality Assurance assignments, as a third-party Auditor, have varied from printing to light engineering to healthcare, and professional/legal offices, as well as construction sites.

Jim has also taken an Advanced Environmental Management Systems course (EARA-approved) and conducted environmental audits, and from time to time carries out QMS audits for a UKAS-approved Certification Body. He is an IRCA-listed SQMC Tutor, teaching on Internal QMS Auditor courses.

D Ingham : B.Eng, MIEE, FCQI, IRCA reg'd Internal Auditor

With a background in electrical engineering, David has had a wealth of experience in the manufacture of various electrical goods. In the Quality area he has experience in factory SPC and FMEA as well as internal auditing, and assists small to medium-sized companies in achieving ISO9001:2000 standard Quality Management Systems.

Apart from Quality Management expertise, David offers assistance in IT strategy services. He is an IRCA-listed SQMC Tutor, teaching on Internal QMS Auditor courses.

G Lamond : I.Eng, MIOSH, RSP

George has a vast experience in Occupational Health & Safety matters. As Quality, Safety and Environmental Manager responsibilities included the co-ordination of ISO 9001: 2000; ISO 14001 and OHSAS18001 Management Systems to meet the requirements of Corporate Governance for internal control.
George is a Registered Safety Practioner.

K MacKENZIE : SQMS Assessor, MISM, IRCA reg'd Internal Auditor

As an Auditor for the Scottish Quality Management System for vocational education and training, and trainer of both SQMS and ISO 9000 auditors, Karen endeavours to put her values into practice, by contributing to the raising of standards in learning and teaching. Karen also teaches on an MSc in Practice Education at the University of Dundee.
She is an IRCA-listed SQMC Tutor, teaching on Internal QMS Auditor courses.

F R Millar : I.Eng, MASQ, FCQI, IRCA reg'd QMS Principal Auditor

Derek had an extensive career in Quality Assurance with the MOD and the NSI (National Supervisory Inspectorate) and has accumulated a wealth of experience as a QMS and EMS Lead Auditor, on assignments for UKAS-approved Certification Bodies.
He is an IRCA-listed SQMC Senior Tutor, teaching on Lead Auditor and Internal Auditor courses.

B Moyes : DipCQI, MSc, MIMI, FCQI, IRCA reg'd QMS Lead Auditor

Bruce had work experience in a variety of engineering companies such as Ferranti and Unisys before joining the British Standards Institution (BSi). He spent a dozen years with them in Business Development and as a Client Manager for ISO9001/2 certification. His advice to organizations seeking ISO 9000 certification, over the years, has been invaluable.

He is a Certified Assessor for the Electrostatic Discharge Association (EDA) and qualified in TL 9000 Systems Auditing. He is an IRCA-listed SQMC Tutor, teaching on Internal QMS Auditor courses.

B Murray : B.A. (Hons), MSc, MILT

Brian had a good engineering background as a draughtsman, then technical sales engineer, in Rolls Royce and other companies, before switching to a teaching career in Industrial Studies. In College and University he has taught Operations Management, including Quality Systems.
He has a strong interest in Total Quality Management (TQM) and integrated management systems in the service and manufacturing sectors. As well as being a trained Internal Quality Auditor he has been involved in training schemes for new technology in industry, team working, and cellular manufacturing.

Brian has also conducted research into the 'quality' issues of purchasing and supply chain management in both industrial and service sectors.

R RIVANS: BSc, C.Eng, MIM, MCQI, IRCA reg'd QMS Lead Auditor

A qualified Metallurgist, Ron has a vast experience in mechanical engineering in general. He is an IRCA-listed SQMC Senior Tutor, teaching on Lead Auditor and Internal Auditor courses, and is a third party Auditor for a UKAS-approved Certification Body. His work as an External Auditor has also included such diverse organisations as the Health Service and computer software designers.
Ron is also a trained tutor for TL16949 systems Internal Auditors.
